Onewheel Electric Vehicle Action Videos in New York City
Float.NYC began as a passion project during 2020's quarantine. I had recently taken up electric PEV (Personal Electric Vehicle) riding in NYC to combat quaratintine-fatigue and get in some outdoor time while simultaneously taking advantage of NYC's empty streets to explore cinematography techniques with my new 360° camera gear.

In 2019, my daily commute from Brooklyn to Manhattan took on a new dimension when I started riding a Onewheel electric board as my primary mode of transportation. As I explored the city on this futuristic ride, I saw an opportunity to document the experience in a way that captured both the motion and the energy of New York’s streets. Merging my background in design with my interest in photography, I began experimenting with 360-degree action cameras, using a telescoping rig to achieve unique third-person perspectives while in motion. The raw footage was unlike anything I had captured before, fluid, immersive, and full of possibility. To turn these rides into compelling visual narratives, I taught myself an entirely new post-production workflow, using Final Cut Pro for video editing and Apple Motion to control virtual camera movements. By reframing and stabilizing 360-degree footage, I was able to create rectilinear action videos that felt cinematic while maintaining the visceral immediacy of the ride.
The result was Float.NYC, a YouTube channel dedicated to pushing the limits of 360-degree action cinematography in an urban environment. This project became a testbed for creative experimentation, refining my approach to camera positioning, motion tracking, and immersive storytelling while giving viewers a first-person perspective on high-speed city riding. Ultimately, for me, Float.NYC was an extremely fun exploration of how technology can transform everyday experiences into compelling visual stories, turning routine commutes into an opportunity for innovation, motion, and creative expression.
